The Rundown: Wanda takes her apprentice on a mission up north and discovers a frozen threat.
Wanda’s magical apprentice Amaranth continues to have some tension with Darcy, but Wanda ends it quickly by opening the store and taking her through the Last Door on another adventure.
This time, the pair find themselves in Canada in the middle of an unnatural snowstorm that has frozen all of the townspeople into ice as giant ice worms emerge from the ground and attack. Worms that have something hidden inside them that could be the key to stopping them and unlocking an ancient mystery.
The Story: A smart, fun and thrilling story from Orlando. There is great action throughout the issue, but the thing that engaged me the most is Amaranth’s continued search for her past, the parallels with Jack Frost and how Wanda is struggling to be the mentor Amaranth needs. The drama at the heart of the story continues to draw me in and I look forward to seeing what comes next.
The Art: Tammetta delivers beautiful art throughout the issue. I continue to love the visual style of the series and how it creates frenetic, energetic movement in the action scenes.
